ABOUT
Angel Food was created fresh off the boat of failure. That's right - 18 paintings were originally planned but only 17 made it out alive. Because of the freedom that failure can beget, Angel Food was quickly laid in with comfort and confidence.
Alla prima - the painting technique that means "all at once" was the name of the game in this delicate beauty.
I took particular delight in creating those soft little patches of flesh to the right of the mouth, the warm oranges reflecting in the shadows of her jaw and the yellow ochres pooling around the corner of her eye.
Fun fact: Angel Food is the only women in the collection to wear a hat! She is also one one of three paintings in which I altered the tones of the fabric.
THE COLLECTION:
This piece is a star in a galaxy of awesome paintings.
17 pieces were created around a common theme: Eye Traps.
Inspired by a strict guide by a religious cult, The IBLP (The Institute of Basic Life Priniciples), of appropriate dress and presentation for women, I set out to create a tapestry of oil paintings on fabric. Each woman is unique but they also work together as an amazing visual quilt. They're bright, beautiful, introspective, and most importantly autonomous.

She is lovely unframed but would look stunning in a floating frame, too.
